Anne McCaffrey

I had another post scheduled for today, but I postponed it after learning last night that Anne McCaffrey had passed away.

Anne McCaffrey was one of the first authors I got into when I became a science fiction/fantasy reader. I have twenty-five books of hers in my collection. Naturally, many of these are in the Pern series, but I also especially enjoyed The Rowan and its sequels.

What's your favorite Anne McCaffrey book?

P.S. I'm taking tomorrow off, so Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I'll be back on Friday with my usual science links.

Happy Thanksgiving, Sandra.

Ref: Anne McCaffrey
My favorite was the first Pern book, Dragonflight.

I especially liked the romance between Lessa and F'lar. There was a deep sensuality which was probably even more striking (and daring) back in the day.

Whoever knew dragons could be so sensual?

I like long, slow romances myself, so I especially liked the relationship between Damia and Afra.

I was sad to hear about Anne McCaffery yesterday too!

I didn't read all the Dragonriders of Pern books, but I loved the ones I read. My favorites are probably the Dragonsinger ones. Those books were definitely my first foray into adult fantasy/sci-fi with dragons!

Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

Krispy, I don't remember which book of McCaffrey's I read first, but it probably was one of the Dragonsinger books. I guess you could call them gateway books!

Very sad - she contributed so much to the world of science fiction.
