Restaurants and Revenge: Full Cover Reveal

Just a quick post today to share the full paperback cover for Restaurants and Revenge:

The actual file was too big to load properly, so I had to take a photo of it. I've ordered a paper proof of the book, so hopefully the paper version will go on sale next month.

Solarpunk Creatures Cover Reveal!

I'm blogging early this week to participate in the cover reveal for the Solarpunk Creatures anthology by Worldweaver Press. (I'll update this post with more information once their blog announcement goes live.)

I have a short story being published in this anthology; it's call "The Colorful Crow of Web-of-Life Park." It's about an escaped parrot that joins a murder of crows while its former owner develops a bird flu vaccine for wild birds.

The anthology will be available January 16th, 2024. You can preorder it through the following links:

Universal Amazon/Apple Link: https://mybook.to/solarpunkcreatures

Paperback pages will take a few more days to appear, but the book will eventually be available in paperback from Amazon, Book-a-Million, Barnes & Noble, etc.

I'm excited to be part of this anthology and look forward to reading the stories by the other authors.

September Writing Update and Cover for Restaurants and Revenge!

Only three more months left of 2023. I still have so many projects I want to work on but so little time. Hopefully now that the annual recertification audit for work is over, I'll be able to use some more vacation time. I'll need it to clear some of these projects listed below:

Short Stories: I have one short story currently on the market, and I just finished reviewing my short story author proof for the forthcoming Solarpunk Creatures anthology.

Restaurants and Revenge:  I just got the cover for Restaurants and Revenge! Expect to see the ebook coming soon to the major distributors!

I'm about halfway through the next book in the series (Bubble Tea and a Body), but it's currently on the backburner.

Season Avatars/World Avatars: Once I finish up Restaurants and Revenge, I can focus on The Season Between, a collection of short stories that will bridge the gap between the Season Avatars and the sequel World Avatars series. I'm currently drafting the first book of the World Series, Avatars Abroad, which will feature mostly new characters. I'm also trying to plot the overall arc of the series. I know how I want it to end, but getting there is always the challenge.

Good Omens: Confession time--the main characters of this show have taken over my brain (in case that wasn't obvious from some of my previous posts). Yes, I'm writing fanfic about this series as a way of coping with the Season Two finale. Hopefully Season Three won't take another four years to air!

What projects are you working on? Feel free to share in the comments.

Mid-Month Mysteries: Murder at Magic Lake Cover Reveal

I've had the eBook cover for Murder at Magic Lake for a few weeks, but I think it's finally time to reveal it. I went through 100covers.com this time since I was able to get a sale: only $100 for an eBook and print cover package. I think they did a great job of creating a cover that fits with the cozy mystery genre:

In addition to the covers, the package also included a 3D image and a social media banner that I'll use on my website and perhaps a Facebook page for the series when it's more established. In the meantime, I'm doing another edit on the book. I'm a little nervous about publishing something in a new genre, so I want it to be as good as I can make it with the resources I have. Once the preorders are set up on all the eBook stores I use, I'll announce it here and on Facebook.

I haven't prepared the proof copy of Summon the Seasons yet, since I need to reread it to make sure I'm not going to change the page count. However, I do have the eBook cover Maria Zannini designed for me, so I'm going to reveal it to you now:

Kay looks very mysterious, doesn't she?

Once I'm ready to order the paper proof, I'll show you the full cover. Maria did a great job incorporating story elements into the back cover. In the meantime, I have pre-orders available for the eBook at $2.99 on the following sites:

Amazon
Apple
Barnes and Noble
Kobo

There's still time to catch up with the series before the final book becomes available. You can find the previous books at your favorite eBook retailers using these universal book links:

Young Seasons--Cover Reveal and Publishing Update

Maria Zannini of Book Cover Diva finished the cover for Young Seasons in late June, but I wasn't ready to reveal the cover until now:

Maria came up with a design that ties in with the novels in the series while incorporating elements from two of the short stories. You'll have to read the stories to figure out which two. Thanks, Maria!

I finished correcting errors last night, so the collection is uploading to Amazon as I write this post. I'll add the link and price once Young Seasons is live. Otherwise, I may have to post an update tomorrow.

Fifth Season--Cover Reveal with Special Guest Commentary

With today being the official last day of summer, it seems like a good time to welcome fall with a cover reveal for Fifth Season, Book Four of the Season Avatars. Each book in the series has a different point-of-view character, and in this book, it's the turn of Ysabel, the Fall Avatar. As with the other books in this series, Maria Zannini of Book Cover Diva did the cover. Thanks, Maria, for taking my ideas and combining them so quickly into a cover! This is the eBook version; I'm not done with layout for the print book yet, so she'll complete the back later. Enough suspense-building; here's the cover:

Since there's a T-rex skull on the cover, I had to bring in some special guests to get their opinion on the cover. If you know me on Facebook, you may have seen pictures of my son's stuffed animals: Stan (the T-rex), Rex (the Apatosaurus, who's named for Captain Rex from Star Wars: The Clone Wars), and Oscar (the orca). We bring them with us on trips so they can share funny lines and photos. Here's what they had to say about Maria's latest cover:

Stan: I'm in the book! I'm in Mom's book!
Rex: Uh, Stan, that's some other T-rex.
Oscar: A dead T-rex, Stan.
Stan: I don't care! It's me! (tries covering ears and fails)
Rex: Anyway, Mom wanted us to point out that this is her first cover to feature a brown-skinned woman.
Oscar: You mean, woman of color. Ysabel belongs to two different ethnic groups and has brown skin.
Rex: Isn't that what I said?
Oscar (ignoring him): But the most important part of the cover is the black-and-white cat she's holding. Ysabel obviously has fine taste in color combinations--
Stan: BUY THAT BOOK! BUY ALL OF MOM'S BOOKS!
Rex and Oscar: STAN! CALM DOWN!

This is why I don't put the boys in charge of book promotion, though how can I go wrong with an endorsement from them? Anyway, pre-orders should be ready by next week; more information and buy links will be posted soon, so keep reading this blog.

Chaos Season--Cover Reveal and Preorder

Maria Zannini of The Book Diva just put the finishing touches on the cover of Chaos Season. At last I can reveal it to you:

I particularly like the way the deathbush loops over the spine. Thanks, Maria!

As if the cover reveal isn't exciting enough, Chaos Season is now available on Amazon, Kobo, and iTunes for preorder! (Preorder should be available soon for Barnes and Noble.) I originally planned to publish this book on the summer solstice, but since then I decided to make it available a little earlier so readers can post reviews before I post ads for the summer solstice. (If I'm able to get the proof edited quickly enough, I may have paper books available at WisCon. Keep your fingers crossed!) Price is $3.99 for the ebook. Sorry, no introductory price special this time, but there may be some for the first two books in the series.

Come back soon for more book news!

Scattered Seasons Cover Reveal and Pre-Order Available!

Yesterday, I received the final front cover of Scattered Seasons from Maria Zannini of Book Cover Diva. Ready to feast your eyes on it?

 Here's the description:

Lady Gwendolyn lo Havil is an Ava Spring, born to heal others and lead the Season Avatars of her generation. Season Avatars with divine magic must work in groups of four to save the country of Challen from Chaos Season, times when all of the seasons appear at once. When the current Ava Spring dies in a riding accident, Gwen must find the other three Season Avatars she will link with.  But two of them are missing, and with Gwen's own magic crippled by a cursed pottery shard, she will have to use all of her skills to find the Avatars scattered across the country of Challen. During her journey, she meets a stranger who claims to know the shard's origin. Is he truly an ally of the Season Avatars, or is he trying to stop them from uniting?

I have officially made this available as a pre-order on Amazon and on other channels through Draft2Digital. (Links will be posted here and on my website as soon as they are available.) Scattered Seasons will go live on April 28, 2015. (I figure it will be my birthday gift to the world.) From now through May 6, 2015, you can buy it for $0.99. After that, the price goes up to $2.99.

Cover Reveal--A Curse of Ash and Iron

I'm participating in a cover reveal for Broad Universe member Christine Norris' book A Curse of Ash and Iron. There's also a giveaway, which you can enter here.

Here's the blurb and other information:

Benjamin Grimm knows the theater is much like real life. In 1876 Philadelphia, people play their parts, hiding behind the illusion of their lives, and never revealing their secrets.

When he reunites with his childhood friend Eleanor Banneker, he is delighted. His delight turns to dismay when he discovers she has been under a spell for the past 7 years, being forced to live as a servant in her own home, and he realizes how sinister some secrets can be. She asks for his help, and he can’t refuse. Even if he doesn't believe in ‘real’ magic, he can’t abandon her.

Ellie has spent the long years since her mother’s death under the watchful eye and unforgiving eye of her stepmother. Bewitched and hidden in plain sight, it seems no one can help Ellie escape. Not even her own father, who is under a spell of his own. When she sees Ben one evening, it seems he is immune to the magic that binds her, and her hope is rekindled along with her friendship.

But time is running short. If they do not find a way to break the spell before midnight on New Year’s Eve, then both Ellie and her father will be bound forever.
