Science of the Week, 2/13/15

I hope you're not suffering from triskaidekaphobia (fear of the number thirteen) today!

Here are some of the most interesting science news articles I read this week:

Settling for "Mr. Right Now" better than waiting for "Mr. Right" (If you wait too long, you may never have kids)

Diamonds could help bring proteins into focus (defects in the diamonds help scientists figure out protein structures)

Researchers produce first map of New York City subway system microbes (most of the microbes are harmless, but there are many unknown species present. Although scientists found DNA from anthrax and bubonic plague, they found no evidence of live specimens.)

Telomere extension turns back aging clock in cultured human cells, study finds (cells can divide more times than they normally would)

Scientists set quantum speed limit  (an energy-time uncertainty relationship similar to Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle limits how precise clocks can be)

Researchers claim to have found evidence of dark matter in Inner Milky Way

How "SuperAger" brains are different than everyone else's

Dinosaurs may have tripped on LSD (because the only thing worse than dealing with sauropods is dealing with stoned sauropods)

Gator blood contains naturally strong germ fighters (which only makes sense, considering where they live and what they eat)

Wikipedia use--nothing to be ashamed about (It's a popular resource for background, but it hasn't supplanted other types of research)

Have a good weekend, whether or not you celebrate Valentine's Day. See you on President's Day.
