Science of the Week, 1/30/15

It's hard to believe the first month of 2015 is almost over, isn't it? It's been a pretty busy one for me. Anyone still on track with their New Year's resolutions?

Here are some of the most interesting science news articles I read this week:

Tonal languages require humidity

Lucid dreams and metacognition: awareness of thinking--awareness of dreaming

From fiction to science: can stem cells be regulated to replace aged, damaged, and missing tissues?

Mothers' "baby talk" is less clear than adult speech

Trust your gut: E. coli may hold one of the keys to treating Parkinson's

New space telescope concept could image objects at higher resolution than Hubble

The "fifth taste," umami, could be beneficial for health

Scientists work out how to unboil eggs (or at least part of them)

Computer scientists generate a self-aware Mario that can think and feel

Using stem cells to grow new hair

Gender roles: men and women not so different after all

Sex differences found in brain mechanisms important for learning

(Ironic that the last two articles came out the same day, isn't it?)

Have a good weekend, and see you Monday!

  2. According to the article, it's a way to recycle denatured proteins. Applications extend not just to food production but also to cancer research.
