Science of the Week, 6/14/13

Here are some of the most interesting news articles I read this week:

How do you feed 9 billion people?

Study shows how young genes become essential for life

Big multiple sclerosis breakthrough?

How similar are the gestures of apes and humans? More than you might suspect.

Spintronics approach enables new quantum technologies

 Whispering light hears liquids talk

Weapons testing data determines brain makes new neurons into adulthood

"Lizard King" fossil shows giant reptiles coexisted with mammals during globally warm past (and yes, they named the fossil for Jim Morrison)

Surgeons implant bioengineered vein

Self-cleaning pollution-control technology could do more harm than good

NAP: A peptide to protect brain function (I bet a real nap would help my brain function too)

Research shows male guppies reproduce even after death

Discovery of new material state counterintuitive to the laws of physics

Questions rise about seeding for ocean CO2 sequestration

And from Scientific American, an article that suggests we might be living in a multiverse after all.

Enjoy your weekend, and Happy Father's Day to all of the fathers out there. I have a post going up tomorrow at Scene 13 about transitions. If you're online, I hope you take a look at it. Otherwise, I'll see you on Monday.
