Maybe more description would help me out.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18714294.post-45904090137355834162010-07-16T16:05:55.597-05:002010-07-16T16:05:55.597-05:00Tara, in the current query, I did start by talking...Tara, in the current query, I did start by talking about Paul first and then moving to the setting. I think the people who reviewed my query weren't really familiar with SF, so that affected how they read the query.

Perhaps next week after I have a second version of a query letter, I can post both for review here.Sandra Ulbrich Almazanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15365908651235829765noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18714294.post-89346158378261446222010-07-16T13:55:31.164-05:002010-07-16T13:55:31.164-05:00It's a really good point about sf/f queries. I'm not sure if trying to start the story with setting is a good idea though.

This doesn't necessarily mean it won't work in*your* query.

In general, though, I think it's still best to start with character/problem. Could you hint at the setting through describing that?Tara Mayahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09095632631554776002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18714294.post-63645778717281644172010-07-16T13:26:59.569-05:002010-07-16T13:26:59.569-05:00This is so true. With the severe space restrictions we have for a query letter, how do we get the important parts of our story across without it sounding derivative of other work? It is hard, and I haven't really succeeded yet.Ted Crosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09022309459554237650noreply@blogger.com
