Having recently joined the Insecure Writer's Support Group (both the main group and the Crit Circle) on Facebook, I figure I should post once a month Wednesdays as well.
This month, we're supposed to provide a brief introduction to ourselves. I'm Sandra Ulbrich Almazan, an indie science fiction/fantasy author. I write the SF Catalyst Chronicles series and the fantasy Season Avatars series (and yes, I'm crazy enough to do both at once). I work for an enzyme company, am married with a seven-year-old son, and am a big Beatles fan. If you'd like to know more about my books, please check out the other pages of this blog.
Tuesday night, while I was trying to figure out what to post, my son was so scared by one of his favorite shows that he couldn't fall asleep. This led to an even shorter-than-usual editing session. I have to admit that when I can't work on my stories, I get cranky. However, getting fifteen or thirty minutes to edit the next book in the Season Avatars series makes me feel better, even if I have to stay up late to do it. (I'm the kind of person who is happier getting something done than doing nothing.) So, if you're having a hard time squeezing writing into the rest of your life, or if you can't figure out what to do, just remember that we're all progressing step by step, rung by rung, as we climb Jacob's Ladder. You tell them, Huey:

Welcome to the IWSG, Sandra!
We can get overwhelmed by the big picture, but it's those little steps that will get us there.
What show scared your son?
Thanks, Alex! It was the latest episode of Star Wars: Rebels, in which Ezra has to face his fears in a Jedi Temple while his master waits outside with dead Jedi.
Sandra, welcome to the group. Often projects seem insurmountable as a whole, but when we break them down step-by-step we can do it. Anne Lamont addresses that in Bird by Bird. Great reading for every author.
Hi Sandra,
That's a great lesson to learn. Even a little progress is better then no progress at all. When I am in write mode, I can stay on task and do it day or night. Editing is another story. I I need to learn to love it like I love writing. Good luck with 2015.
One step at a time is fine with me, as long as I'm moving forward. :-)
Here's my link if you'd like to drop by :-)

It's true. Even if all we can sneak in a day to write is 15-30 minutes, it feels good. Keep at it!

Diane, I've heard good things about that book. Yet another one to add to the TBR pile.
Sydney, Writing and editing are two different beasts.
Anna and Mary, I'll stop by to visit.
We've only seen one episode of Rebels so far (because we bought it) since no one is streaming it, yet.
>sigh<
Andrew, it's on Disney XD if you get that channel.
Little steps are sometimes all we can take. Hope your little guy is sleeping better. Happy new year and welcome to the IWSG! :)
Thanks for the song and the tip! I agree - something, even a little baby step kind of something, is better than nothing.
Best wishes for 2015!
Thanks, Christine!
You're welcome, Tyrean!
Welcome to IWSG! That's right, step by step. Sometimes it's hard to remember that.
Welcome to the IWSG.
I'm happier doing something rather than nothing. My husband swears I can't hold still or sit and do nothing for more than five minutes.
Welcome to #IWSG!
I really get cranky when stuff gets in the way of my writing too.
It can be so hard to stick with a writing schedule.
Happy New Year!
